The Canyon of the Orrido di Ponte Alto
and its waterfalls At the gates of Trento there is a spectacular canyon that has recently reopened to the public in which water jumps up to 40 meters are thrown. On the outskirts of Trento there is a truly spectacular canyon that, however, few people know. It is the Canyon of the Orrido di Ponte Alto, it is a spectacular place that has only recently been reopened to the public, after careful work to make it safe. The Orrido is a deep canyon carved by the tumultuous waters of the Fersina stream over thousands of years. Here, in 1500, some of the oldest hydraulic works in the world were built. The stream had to make its way, therefore, eroding layers of limestone rocks deposited over 140 million years, to create a gorge about a hundred meters deep that separates the slopes of Monte Celva from those of Calisio. The incision in certain points narrows in an impressive way, so much so that from the top it is sometimes impossible to see the bottom as the stream has also carved out the sides. Descending into the gorge, in the few accessible points, you are immersed in a gloomy and shady world, saturated with humidity. Here and there, on some crags, the last little trees and isolated specimens of yew grow, miraculously clinging to them. On the overhanging walls, delicate green carpets develop on which the dipper and the yellow wagtail stand in search of food.It is amazing to immerse yourself in this gorge carved by the stream over the millennia, between waterfalls over 40 meters high and layers of red rock that create spectacular plays of light. It is advisable to visit it accompanied by expert guides, who explain the particular environment of this gorge and the history of the water management systems built here since the Middle Ages, to protect the nearby city from sudden floods. The natural beauty of this place is combined with one of the oldest hydraulic works in Europe, the so-called “Serra di Ponte Alto”, built at the behest of Prince Bishop Bernardo Clesio in 1537 and, after countless renovations and consolidations, still present after the last reconstruction made in 1850. It consists of a barrier for the interception of solid material transported by the Fersina and gives rise to two spectacular jumps: the first in correspondence with the historical work itself, the second “born” in 1882 following the construction of a second work in consolidation of the first, the “Controserra Madruzza”. Enchanting places Discover these treasures of Trentino’s nature. The environment is our greatest asset, which we have always protected and cared for with great attention. For this reason, the landscapes of Trentino are not simple postcards to photograph but are living entities, thanks to the delicate balance between plants, men and animals. It is something you feel when you explore our enchanting places. Valleys, forests and mountains: it would be a shame to go home without having seen them.
All on Monte Bondone di Trento: the elegance of nature! Monte Bondone is a real natural paradise, an added value to the splendid territory that welcomes the city of Trento. It is not necessary to travel who knows how many kilometers to reach this location, much loved by the locals and a destination for holidays and simple excursions by tourists from all over Italy and beyond. The fairytale landscapes and unspoiled nature are the calling card of this enchanting place. The word relaxation is at home, but sport is also part of this wonderful reality. Hang gliding flights, mountain bike trails, hiking trails that lead to points where the landscape opens up majestically before the eyes. All this just 15 kilometers from Trento. Take refuge in the middle of nature and breathe pure air: perhaps that is all it takes to describe Monte Bondone. However, do not imagine a wild environment, because here the structures present, which have not just raised the level of local tourism, are truly excellent. Wellness centers and hotels, which seem to have taken their stars directly from the clear sky that acts as a spectacular dome, are real jewels that shine in the green. Attention, we always talk about intelligent and respectful tourism: the environment has not been weighed down by the accommodation facilities which, unlike other places where they appear as real punches in the eye, almost manage to blend in with what nature has created. Monte Bondone is also known as the temple of cycling in Trentino. A real natural terrace that offers indescribable views: from the Brenta Dolomites to the Adamello. The Integral Nature Reserve and the Alpine Botanical Garden always manage to enchant with their natural elegance. Beauty is found in simple things and here nature has created something simply wonderful. Harmony is the key that opens the doors of this fantastic world. Furthermore, it is possible to discover the millenary traditions thanks to the expert local guides who will lead you along panoramic paths, enlivening the walk with stories and with the history of Monte Bondone. This both during the summer and in winter (the ski slopes, on which you can have fun even at night, are truly spectacular): just change the way you dress and the equipment, but the emotions will be the same.

Stones, branches, leaves, trunks, earth are the raw materials of the works of art that remain in place, to merge with nature. Since 1986, more than 300 international artists have contributed to creating this “place of the soul”, enriching it with elements that are now part of the landscape, and that change with the rhythm of the seasons. A unique phenomenon in the whole of Trentino: columns up to 20 m high, arranged in an “organ pipe” row, dominated in most cases by a large porphyry stone. A tourist attraction that attracts scholars and enthusiasts from all over the world. They can be visited all year round and can be reached along a path. To be able to admire them, you have to pay a ticket. The stone sculptures of Trentino: the Pyramids of Segonzano The Pyramids of Segonzano can be considered a perfect masterpiece of nature formed about 50 thousand years ago, due to the erosion of the Alviso glaciers and the consequent disintegration of the mountains. The slow flow of water over the centuries has eroded the morainic deposit formed, giving life to these natural pinnacles, which seem to defy the laws of balance. The Pyramids of Segonzano, with their typical golden yellow color, resemble cones surmounted by a large stone, or giant people with hair on their heads: hence the term omeni da tera, used by the locals to describe them. On the site there are different types of pyramids, the so-called pointed pyramids, without the protective block, or the crested pyramids, with a sharp and serrated outline. At the foot of the pyramids, a rich vegetation of mosses, leaves and roots slows down the erosion of the water which changes them continuously. To reach the Pyramids of Segonzano you can follow an easy path. How to get to the Pyramids of Segonzano • from Baselga di Pinè: take the SP 83 towards Trento and after about 3-4 km at the junction for Segonzano, turn right • from Brusago di Pinè take the road to Valcava on the left of the church and follow it to the junction with the SP 71. From here follow the signs for Segonzano • from Trento exit east and take the Fersina valley for Civezzano – Cavalese. At the crossroads for Pergine, turn for Civezzano and continue for Segonzano
